On Saturday, May 6, 2017, Lower West Side Household Services (LWS Homecare) and the Dennelisse LHCSA Corp made their way to the Sunset Park Recreation Center in Brooklyn, NY. The organizations had signed up to participate in the Chinese American Planning Council’s Brooklyn Community Service’s 8th Annual Health Fair and Family Day. They expected to arrive, interact with the community and tell them about the home health care and case management services that they provide, but they were treated to so much more.

Throughout the day there was a constant flow of performances, demonstrations, and games for all to enjoy. It started with a Tai Chi demonstration that featured some fancy fan work and moved on to games of knockout basketball, Tai Kwon Do demonstrations, Zumba, traditional Chinese dancing, hip hop dance, hula hooping, speeches by local politicians and even a few words from the district’s Congresswoman, Nydia Velazquez. There was an array of exercises and activities for people of all ages to join in on and continue throughout the year. Clowns made balloon animals for the children while their families received information on a variety of health matters.

One of Dennelisse LHCSA’s teammates, a nurse, took blood pressure readings and tested blood sugar to screen for potential health issues. Many community members were interested in working for LWS Homecare and got information about the Dennelisse LHCSA training school where they can be certified as a home health aide. The impressive attendance and interest from the participants never slowed until the event was over. LWS Homecare and the Dennelisse LHCSA look forward to attending this exciting event again and partnering with the Chinese-American Planning Council to improve the lives of the people in our communities.
